Cycling 19th August 2009

Woke up at 3am.
As usual, the thought of going to LH frighten me.
I do not know how I will fare...
Legs are still slightly sore from Sunday's AHM.
This will be my recovery ride.

Riding towards Mandai Shell, I struggled up the first slope.
14kmh. Geez...so that is how recovery ride feels like.

Passing Old Mandai Road, I could see the first few riders coming through.
Cool. I am early today.
Going down the slope, I can feel the energy in the legs creeping back.

A rider was near the top of the slope...
Hehe.... I probably should try to catch up with the rider. =D

Started to launch my attack.
Haha... I managed to catch the rider before we both rode over the crest.
Shoot!!! It is Ivo the Beast!!!
He definitely won't let me off without a fight...

I picked up my pace and sped off. =p
It wasn't till after the zoo that I sense that he is catching up.
Looking back...Gosh, he is definitely hot on my tail.

Then came the junction that we all dread.
The BKE exit onto Mandai Road.
Ivo is trying a sneak assault by riding out onto the third lane.
Only a shout "CAR!" by me, stopped him from trying to cross the junction.

Once the game started, I started to falter...
Ivo is just too good for me.
Surprisingly though, I was able to catch up and draft behind him after about 100m. =)
The Sprint Point is at the last bus stop, but Ivo slowed down 100m from the bus stop to let me overtake him.
Thanks, Ivo.
No points here, just some cheap thrill...The false impression that I am all ready to race with the Big Boys. =D

30+ riders rolled in to Mandai Shell.
A far cry from the usual 50+ Wednesday group.
Most of the riders are taking their break in preparation for this Sunday's TTT?
Calvin is commenting that today ride is nice. Average 32kmh rather than the usual 39kmh...

Turning left onto Woodlands Road, it was another controlled ride to Bukit Panjang.
After the junction, it is another story.
Chermaine, Alex and another rider were playing prank upfront, much to the annoyance of Peter.
"Keep a steady pace of 30kmh", Peter commented.
"Overtake us lah..." Chermaine jested.
Overtake... the group did... I din stay to watch what happen next.

Animal Matthew had long gone by now.
That is his style... he will ride off once we turn left at Mandai Shell and wait for us at Fuji Xerox Towers.

A few of us has detached from the group and were riding steadily towards Clementi.
It has been a long while since I ride Clementi and the feeling is nice.
I missed Clementi.

Riding up West Coast Flyover, a familiar voice greeted me.
It is Rynn... she has led the peloton and they have caught up with us.

Together with Daniel Cheng, the threesome did a steady pull.
Another rider overtook us and 2 x Daniel Cheng left poor Rynn behind.

Alas, Daniel Cheng is too strong for me and I was not able to stay in his draft for long.
Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable ride along West Coast Flyover.
The flyover seems shorter this morning... I think I am having too much fun sprinting and drafting.

Reached Fuji Xerox Towers and took a well deserved break.

Rynn rode in.
She commented : "This is your recovery ride, right? Cannot imagine what will be your speed when you are fit again."
I grinned back. I was surprised with my pace today too. =p

While the gang went to the Juice Bar, we took an easy ride home.
