Cycling 15th August 2009

Apologies for the extremely long inactivity.
I have some issues posting blog entries in Blogger.
Issue still unresolved.
The internet browsers are not able to save the blog entries.
Even the current "workable" browser Safari is not showing the icons. =(
If anyone has any resolutions or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!
I have used 7 browsers, only Safari is partially working.
Internet Explorer 8, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Maxthon, Maxthon2, Opera, Firefox

It has been an entire week since I did any form of exercise.
Not a very good way to train for AHM.
In fact, today's ride will be an extremely bad idea.
It is probably the first time I am doing a ride the day before a "major" race. (Anything beyond 15km pure running is major to me. And that includes all the multi-sports races as well. =p)

Nonetheless, I woke up at 4:35am and prep for the ride.
5:19am means that I will have to proceed to Mandai Shell directly.
Climbing the Mandai slope, I am travelling at 14kmh!!!
That is what one week of rest can do to you. =(

Reached Mandai Shell with plenty of time to spare.
Did a few Mandai end loops before the train comes along.

Ever the kay-poh one, I waited to see who are the two riders riding up rear before I chase after the Kranji group.

Ahh... it is Kampong Boy Calvin and Peihua.
They are the last two riders for the 5:30am group.
Last 2 riders??? What happened to the rest of the gang???
I counted about 20 riders this morning...

Turning right, the Kranji gang is nowhere to be seen.
Haha, it is time for my favourite past time - Chasing. =D

Passing the train tracks, I can catch a faint glimpse of 2 riders in front about to turn left onto Kranji Loop.
Sped up slightly, only to figure out that the rear blinkers I seen could well be the bicycle lights of the workers cycling around the industrial estate. =(

Travelling along Kranji Way, I chanced upon two riders leaving the Kranji bridge just as I am ascending it.

1km, 2mins... it is a tough target.
Exiting Kranji bridge, I cannot see any riders at all in the far distance.

Took a shortcut through Lim Chu Kang Lane 3.
Road condition at the junction is so bad that I wobbled horribly and almost skidded.
Luckily I gained control just in the nick of time.
The stupid lorry who has been trailing me for the past minute can be heard jamming on his brakes.
*Phew* and *Double Phew*

Luckily I am riding alone, else it will be a total disaster.

Exiting onto Lim Chu Kang Road, it was total darkness from LCK Lane 3 exit to Neo Tiew Road exit.
My front light is set in blinking mode, so I can only see the road occasionally.
Decided to ride in the middle of the road for safety sake.
I was a good great decision.
If I have been riding at the side of the road, I will be hitting the ditch cos the road narrowed.
Riding past New Tiew Road, I caught sight of the rear riders again.
The chase has re-ignited.
I din managed to close the gap though.
The group must have been riding at close to 30kmh.

To have a chance of reaching them, I guess I have to go aero... =p
I bid for my time and started my attack when the Lim Chu Kang Road widen into 3 lanes.
Dennis and Andrew were the first casualties.
Dennis is remarkable though.
He is riding a MTB with a front suspension fork but he has no problem keep the gap from the other guys to a respectable distance.

Overtook Chan Kilo and Charles and my crosshairs is set on Kelly and a Pinoy rider.

By this time, my heart rate is shooting through the roof.
The unfortunate incident during OSIM triathlon comes into mind, but I know I will stop if I cannot tahan anymore.

The last part of the chase is definitely the hardest.
Their pace is relentless...
The end of Lim Chu Kang is within sight.
Managed to overtake them with a few hundred meters to spare. =D *Woot*

Analysis for the ride is disappointing though. =(
Last km to Mandai Shell, I am doing 45kmh.
Whole stretch of Lim Chu Kang, I could only muster an average of 36kmh in aero position.
How to compete with the Big Boys if I were to do ITT and/or TTT?

Stop at the last bus stop and took a well-deserved break.
Kelly commented : "You literally owned the road back there. You were like an aeroplane." =p
When they are ready to leave for brekkie, I was still panting pretty heavily. =p
Decided to take on the sweeper role. =D

Reached the coffeeshop before 7am!!!
6:53am, if I remembered the time correctly. =D
Haha... the whole group is getting faster and faster.
Chan-Kilo is commenting that the average pace of the group is close to 30kmh. =D

After a hearty breakfast and chat, we break for home.
Nice ride, guys. Thanks!

P.S. Let's hope my legs can hold up tomorrow for the 21km run. =D
