To save my readers the agony of going through a very long post, I have split my year end report into two.
You can read my mid-year report here.
Started off the 2nd half of 2008 with OSIM Triathlon.
A year of agonising wait and the race is here again.
For me, the race has lost it lustre somewhat.
In 2007, it is suppose to be my first triathlon.
But when the race comes around, I have already completed a Sprint and Olympic Distance Triathlon each.
And having done my OD Triathlon in Bintan, I know that there is no way TAS is able to match up to Tribob's organisation.
To make things worse, I change a new pair of tires at the eleventh hour. Manage to do a few loops at the car park to get used to the tires though. =p
Swim was tough, but I manage to scrap through.
Bike was enjoyable and then it was down to my most hated discipline, run.
My legs was cramping BIG time and my body was overheating. So it was a wonderful relief when a downpour came in the middle of the run.
Did a better run than the one I did during Bintan OD Tri, ensuring a PB. =)
A week later, it was Trilympics Dream 2008.
A charity spinning event which I completed 40km comfortably.
Mizuno Wave Run
After last year's disastrous organisation, I was hesitant to sign up for it this year.
But I decided to give VGO a chance and I was not disappointed.
Route was well defined, baggage deposit was properly organised.
I completed the race together with a good friend, Esther.
2 weeks later, it is Pearl Izumi Pure Run 20km.
It is equivalent to a training run just before the Army Half Marathon.
With the chiongsters from SAFRA and SGRunners, I am glad that I managed to finish second last.
I missed Run NUS 2008, as Sean has indicated his early arrival.
Army Half Marathon
Without any training since Pearl Izumi 20km, I know I am going to suffer during this race. Just that I never expect to suffer so badly.
10km and I am done for the day. It was a painful 11km walk to the Finish Line.
Complete the race in a horrendous 3 hours 33 minutes.
Swing KPE
Another month of no exercise, even a 10km run is hard to conquer.
Walked most of the distance and complete the run in 1 hour 33 minutes.
FINA Open Water Swim
My first swim race. Somehow I know I am not gonna hate this race.
It is the only triathlon discipline which I know I can just go there and complete it comfortably.
So even without any swim since OSIM Triathlon, I did not suffer.
First time I refuel in the swim and I must admit that it was fun. =)
Completed the 3km swim in 1 hour 45 minutes.
Run for Hope. Decided to skip the race for the 10th consecutive year even though I signed up for it. =p
Doing my part for charity. =)
New Balance Real Run
A blazing hot day for a run.
The new route is a welcome change.
Running routes in Singapore are getting too monotonous.
Did not set any expectations for the run, so I am just glad that I manage to complete the run without injuries.
OSIM Corporate Triathlon
Early in the morning, got 2 calls from friends living in the East.
Both are comptemplating not going for the race cos of the rain.
I did not sign up to flush my money down the drain cos of rain. Hehe...
Was glad I went and completed the race.
Enjoyable short distance (200m) swim.
Tiring bike and run though.
Spend 2 hours washing the gears after the race, but throughly enjoyed the process.
Pearl Izumi Pure Run 30km
DNS. My legs are still okay after the OSIM Corporate Triathlon.
Did not wanna go due to the lack of training.
Missed out on Salomon X-Trail Run as it falls on the same day as Pearl Izumi Pure Run 30km.
Decided not to sign up for Swissotel Vertical Marathon, although I have pledge myself to indulge in the annual bird's eye view.
Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon
DNS. I hit an all time high of 5 DNS this year.
Much as I wanted to go and walk the entire race, my knees just won't allow it.
Guess my legs are just trying to save my knees from further damages so that I can continue to enjoy my sports.
Let's Take A Walk
I knew that it won't be a walk in the park.
But I never knew that I will succumb to blisters.
Nonetheless, it is a learning experience for me.
MR25 Ultra-Marathon
Due to blisters and non-training, I know it will be dumb to attempt the distance again.
There is always another year to fulfill this distance.
Well, that sums up my entire races experience for 2008.
See ya guys next year!
