Swing KPE

Took a bus to Hougang Ave 3 and walked over to the old Hougang Bus Interchange.

Took my toilet break at MacDonalds before proceeding to join the queue.
Turned out to be a wise decision. =p

The Kovan bus queue was long, but at least it is orderly.
Took me about 20-30 minutes before I am able to board the bus.
Kept looking out for familiar faces, but there were none. =S

It was a very quick ride to the Start Point.
Met Tee Lee who direct me to where the SGRunners were gathering.

The "FatBirds" were decked out in the blue Nike colors and soon I saw Brokie distributing carabiners and comms squads.
Geez, dun tell me they are going to try out their marathon pacers training here!
The dark green comms squads ain't the best option available for this Underground Tunnel Run.

When the race is about to start, the 10km runners were ushered to the front of the pack through the left side of the road.
Cool Bananas!
Saw Boon Kiat and went forward to chat with him.
Haha, first thing he said was "Your gal friend run really fast!"
I was like "Huh? Which friend?"
BK says "The one whom I always see in your group. Last week, while everyone is whittling in the heat, she just speed past everyone!"
Haha, Ms Lin's improvement cannot escape even the most casual competitor. =)

At 8.30am, the race starts.
Ran with Boon Kiat for about 2km before I lose him in the crowd.
The organisers did not turn on the ventilation fans at this stage and the whole place felt like a furnace.
Worse still, the lights were turned off near the 2km stage and we all ran in almost pitch darkness.
The chatter stops as everyone tried to watch their steps.
Just as we emerge from the darkness, FatBirds ran past and I run beside them for about 500m before I have to give up. Their pace are too fast for me. =p

Soon after, I just ran out of steam and began my long walk to the Finish Line.
The weeks of inertia is really telling.
Tried running mid-foot.
The feeling is great, it feels so "effortless" coming from a heel striker's perspective.
But I do not have the stamina to hold on to the pace. Argh....

Noticed 2 thin pipes running along the top of the tunnel with "sensors" at every 10m intervals.
Wonder what they are for.

Complete the walk in 1:35 hr, deliberately trying to set a Personal Worst for my 10km.
Not too sure if I have done it. Won't be too anxious to find out.

Met Kezia and her gang. While they attacked the milo van, I soak in the atmosphere.
After watching the Lamborghini's display, I proceed to walk to Hougang Ave 3 and catch a bus home.

Come 2009 / 2010, I will probably be bringing Shannon or / and Stella for fun runs.
Haha, I can officially retire from long distance runs. Yeah!
