Shannon was rocking on the chair while I was busy MSN-ing.
I have reminded her numerous times not to rock the chair in case she falls.
But my instructions always fall on deaf ears.
When I see her toppling over, I think I have enough time to reach over to prevent her from falling down.... I did not lift a finger!!!
What went through my mind in those nano seconds is that I need her to experience the pain that comes with the fall.
Am I right to do that? Or was I wrong?

I do agree that at times, children needs to feel the pain from the act as long as your have calculated the risk involved in during the occurance.
For a little girl, falling backwards over from a rocking chair may be too traumatic a lesson. What if...she knocks the back of the head and there's memory loss? I think the risk is too great to let a child from a rocking chair.
So what happened? You let her fall? Did she learn anything? Kids sometimes (some kids) have short memory. After a while, they go back to rocking the chair again :D
She did that a few times at the dining table.
So when she did that in her small rattan chair which is on the carpet, I let her fall.
She hit her head, which prompted this blog entry.
She did that again last night, I reminded her of the fall and she stopped.
Question again, did I do the right thing? As you say, it may be traumatic for her.
Your girl got guts!
Some kids fall once and they remember it and never repeat. Some fall, and go on rocking or climbing. It's character :)
Like your character loh, jodan!!! Never say cannot!!
