Cycling 5th August 2008

After a hearty breakfast, I happily went out to catch the train this morning.
Turning onto the main road, I find today to be very breezy.
Can feel the wind blowing through my hair, so cooling...

Hmm...something is not right...
Oh no, my HELMET!!! I forgot my helmet!!!
Turned back home to get my helmet. Haiz, I probably will miss the train now.

Cycle as fast as I can to Mandai Shell.
Not a rider in sight. Took a look at the watch. 5:37am.
There is no way I can catch up with the Neo Tiew group.
Decided to do the usual LH route.

It is a very quiet morning with very few riders on the road.
Got pretty irritated by the clicking sound on the chainrings, but I am unable to rectify the problem during the stops. Another thing for me to troubleshoot before the next ride.
I guess I really have to spend the money to fine-tune my bike before the IM 70.3 race.

I am glad I finally got the Bento Box all figured out.
The much hated TopPeak Bento Box does not bother me anymore.
It stay upright throughout the whole ride.
Solution? Cable Tie.
I stiffen the interior last week, but it does not solve the problem.
Adding a cable tie on the exterior forces it to stay upright.
You can use 2 cable ties for good measure, but 1 cable tie should do the trick. =)

Biking out from OUTR, I decided to do an additional OUTR lap to see how it feels on the return leg.
Hmm, the upslopes are manageable. The only concern is the bends.
On the return leg, you are mostly on the inner lane and there is always a risk that you took a wide turn and end up on the wrong side of the road.
Ohh, yeah... Do watch out for the dogs. They like to chase after bikes. Make sure you can out-sprint them if you ride alone in the mornings. =)

hi,

The ride starts at 5am from Thomson LongHouse (LH).

I meet them @ Mandai Shell around 5.30am.

If it is a fast group, they will probably reach Mandai Shell ard 5.25am.

Tuesday and Thursday are Sprint Days. Most of the leisure riders avoid these days. =)

From LH - Bukit Timah - LH is 35km.

LH - Clementi - LH is 51km.

LH - Neo Tiew - Jalan Buroh - CBD - Yishun is 75km.

Average speed?
Depends on day and chosen ride.

Neo Tiew is the fast group ride.
Speed can average 35km/h by drafting.

Bukit Timah / Clementi is the leisure ride.
Average speed is 26-27km/h

ok thanks,

the LH- BR -LH, 35km only mah?

the rest i could not figure out. anyway, those distance 50km- 75km, would probably take me too long. 2-3hour to complete and reached home. too long for a morning ride.

i will try the Bukit timad road, one of these days before HIM.

see you at the starting line.
